Riyom Part-time Councillors Frown at LG Boss’ Abysmal Performance, Calls for Conduct of Poll in the LGA

The Part-time Councillors of Riyom LGA, Plateau State have described as abysmal and poor the performance of the Transition Committee Chairman of Riyom Local Government Council, Hon. Emmanuel Danboyi Jugul and the Secretary of the Council, Hon. Joshua Mangadi.

The Councillors said they are fade up with the autocratic and undemocratic conduct of the duo which they said have increased distrust and lack of confidence in the people of the Local Government Area.

They made the disclosures on Saturday 21st September, 2019 during a meeting they held at Riyom Guest House, Riyom LGA.

They observed that while other Local Government Councils are commissioning visible and people-oriented projects reverse is the case with Riyom LGA where the Chairman is running the affairs of the Local Government Area as a Sole Administrator.

They said since they assumed office two years ago, the Local Government has no single project it has recorded despite the huge monthly subvention it has received so far.

They said the Chairman and Secretary do not carry them along in activities but rather run the Council as their personal property.

They said they are voicing out their grievances so that the people they are representing will know the true picture of governance in their domain.

The Councillors said they are not comfortable and happy with how the Council is being managed saying they wonder where the resources meant for developing the Local Government are being kept or used for.

They accused Hon. Emmanuel Danboyi and Joshua Mangadi of highhandedness and inability to provide the needed leadership in the area.

They said what is obtainable in the area is a clear abuse of office and complete deviation from what the people expect from the third tier of government.

The Council said they have no trust and confidence in the Hon. Danboyi-led government in Riyom LGA and therefore calling on the State Governor to immediate intervene so that the people can have a sigh of relief.

Mr Mark Kwon, the APC Local Government Chairman appreciated them for tabling the issues before the party leadership in the area and said they will do their best towards ensuring the issues raised are not swept under the carpet but properly addressed.

While commending the State Governor for his peace building initiative which has yield considerable result, the Leader of the Team, Hon. Stephen Marah called on the State Government through Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) to conduct Local Government Elections in the Area so that the people can elect those who will represent them at the Ward and Local Government Levels to get the much clamored for dividends of democracy.

PRESS STATEMENT FROM MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE COUNCILLORS OF RIYOM LGC.
Government has been urged to strictly monitor activities of its political appointees for better performance. Management committee councillors of Riyom LGC stated this during a meeting with the LGA executive and the 17 ward chairmen of the APC at the Local government guest house.
The councillors said the meeting is aimed to vindicate them from the poor performance of the management committee which have been turned to sole administration that have no impact on the people they are representing.
Chairman of the APC in the Area, Mr Mark Kwon appreciated the councillors in their approach, salute their performance despite their predicaments and promise to quickly look on the issues raised.
Earlier, leader of the team, Hon Stephen Marah, congratulated effort of Governor Simon Lalong in his efforts in restoring peace on the plateau and Riyom LGA in particular and hence plead with government to conduct the local government elections in the Area since peace has since return to their communities.
