Following declaration of the Plateau South Senatorial Seat Vacant by the Electoral Umpire, INEC and the preparation for a bye-election for Plateau South Senatorial District, the Executive Chairman of Qua’an-Pan LGC, Hon. Isaac Kyale Kwallu has thrown his hat into the ring to contest the position.

In a letter titled “expression of intention to contest for the Senate Seat for the Plateau South Senatorial District” dated 15th May, 2020 and addressed to the Plateau State All Progressive Congress (APC), Hon. Kwallu said the decision and ambition is borne out of his conviction to serve the people of the Zone effectively.

The letter reads in part;

“The electoral system as provided for by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended provides for replacement of an elected official when such a seat becomes vacant.”

“Hence, having consulted widely, I arrived at a decision guided by the utilitarian principle of the greatest good for the greatest number, and wish to express my INTENTION to contest for the Senate seat of Plateau South Senatorial District In the forthcoming Senate bye election on the platform of our dear party, the All Progressive Congress (APC).”

“I hereby write to you, as a strategic stakeholder in the Plateau South project seeking your support and goodwill”

His slogan is “Divine Mandate 2020”

The Southern Senatorial Seat became vacant following the demise of the Senator who represented the Zone, His Excellency Sen. Ignatius Datong Longjan the immediate past Deputy Governor and a Nigerian Diploma who died on the 10th February, 2020.

Certain persons such as Rt. Hon. George Edwards Daika from (Former Speaker, House of Representative Member Shendam/Mikang/Qua’an-Pan Federal Constituency 2007-2011 & PDP Gubernatorial Aspirant in 2019) who hails from Mikang LGA, Hon. John Dafaan (Immediate past Chief of Staff to Gov. Simon Lalong 2015-2019) who is from Qua’anpan LGA, Prof. Doknan Danjuma Sheni (Former Vice Chancellor Plateau State University) from Langtang North, Prof. Nora Daduut and Barr. Philip Peter Isa Nyitni (a Legal Practitioner) from Qua’anpan have impliedly indicated interest to contest for the seat.

There are strong indications and unconfirmed news that the North Central Vice Chairman of the PDP and former Executive Chairman Qua’an-Pan LGC, Hon. Theophilus Dakas Shan and the present Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development Plateau State, Hon. Victor Lapang (who is also from Qua’an-Pan LGA) may also contest for the Senate Seat.

From all indications, this will be the toughest contest in the Senatorial Zone considering the interests so far.
