Plateau PDP Crisis: Sen. David Mark’s Peace Panel Gets One-week Extension

The reconciliatory committee set up by the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party to resolve the leadership crisis rocking the Plateau State chapter of the party has been granted one-week extension to settle the matter, The Punch learnt on Sunday.

The committee headed by a former Senate President, Senator David Mark, was set up by the PDP National Working Committee following crisis that erupted in the state chapter of the party, which led to the suspension of the party’s state chairman, Mr Damishi Sango; and his Deputy, Mr Amos Gombi.

The committee members were given three weeks to report back to the National Secretariat of the party for final position on the issues involved

However, our correspondent learnt on Sunday that Mark and members of his committee had yet to visit the state over the matter even as the three weeks given to them to complete their assignment would elapse Monday (today)

Chairman of the PDP in Plateau Central Zone, Mr Benedict Shignuhul, confirmed the extension to our correspondent in Jos on Sunday.

Shignuhul said, “Yes, we have been informed that the three weeks earlier given to the reconciliation committee led by Senator David Mark to resolve the leadership crisis in the state has been extended by one week to enable them to do a good job. It was meant to expire by Monday (today).

“We have also been told that the committee has been meeting with relevant stakeholders in Abuja over the matter, including members of the National Assembly from the state and party elders on how to resolve the dispute.

So the bulk of their assignment has been done but they have to visit Plateau State and meet with members of the state working committee, council chairmen and other stakeholders before they will complete their job.
And this, we hope, they will do anytime from now since they have been given additional one week for the assignment”
