PIDAN Worried Over Looting of Property by Hoodlums in Plateau State

PLATEAU INITIATIVE FOR DEVELOPMENT AND ADVANCEMENT OF THE NATIVES
(PIDAN)

NEWS RELEASE

LET’S BE FIRM
The Plateau Initiative for Development and Advancement of the Natives (PIDAN) is worried on the spades of looting which characterized the state in the aftermath of the Endsars protest.

We condemn the actions of the few misguided elements in this looting spree in its entirety and hereby warned that further acts of lawlessness shall not be condoned by well meaning people of the state.

To stern the tide, PIDAN as the umbrella body of the over 58 ethnic nationalities in the state hereby directs its national affiliate members to immediately call their respective members to order and activate the community security system to work with the law enforcement personnel to tame the looting and destruction of properties in their domains.

They are to caution their wards and direct them to stand firm in the defence of the State against hoodlums, who are not only out to vandalise and cart away public and private properties, but to destabilize the State.

They should also direct their members to cooperate with appropriate security agencies by reporting both identified and suspected hoodlums within their respective locations, with the view to nipping these new trends.

PIDAN commends the state government for the steps taken so far and the security agencies for rising to the occasions with the arrests of some of the perpetrators of the looting, destruction of property and the disruption of the fragile peace in the State.

While we acknowledged the compassion of some of the affected towards the hoodlums, we support the call that all those caught and found guilty should face the wrath of the law to serve as deferent to those with future thoughts toward such obnoxious acts.
Finally, may we use this opportunity to to call on people to see the destruction and vandalization of properties from the angle of destruction of Plateau State since it is public funds, which should have been used for further developments, that will be used to put the destroyed properties back.
So let’s all stand firm to protect our dear Plateau State.

We count on all of you to do the needful.
