MY VIEW ON THE FORTHCOMING SOUTHERN PLATEAU SENATORIAL ELECTION 2020 Written and Edited by: Kwalmi Kelvin Kwande

Date: 15th August, 2020

Sovereignty resides in and flows from the people of Southern Plateau Constituency. We do have a collective right to choose our leader as an aspect of self determination.

The authority of government likewise derives from the will of the people in their choice of these systems, and the people have a right to take part in government, including through genuine election to determine who will legitimately occupy the Southern Plateau Senatorial Seat at Red Chamber, Abuja.

But what happens when the voices of the majority are not being heard? This marks the beginning of a failed promises and also a fail government.

These precepts are embodied in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and in modern constitutions of the world.

They capture the foundation for the famous formulation that democratic government is “of the people, by the people and for the people” In essence, they mean just that: governments belong to the people; governmental processes belong to the people; and elections belong to the people.

I will like to throw this question to the Senatorial Aspirants, Political Parties, Sponsors and all the Southern Plateau Political Gladiators. Why putting on deaf ears to the cry of the Masses who Voted you into power for believing in you?

Citizen engagement is not an obstruction; it takes tangible forms and serves particular purposes to improve people’s’ lives. Therefore Citizen engagement pursues economic, social, cultural and political development, including the provision of opportunity, resources, services, and security of lives and properties.

Am still emphasizing, for democracy to deliver in Southern Plateau Constituency and in Nigeria at large, we must “CHANGE OUR NARRATIVES”. Which means we must be informed about issues that can improve our lives, and also ACTION must take place on those issues.

We must be free to come together to express our views and preferences and work to see that government responds to our plights, thus holding those in government accountable.

We must unite as one in this forthcoming Election to Elect based on competency and not based on Party,

We should come together as one voice to jealously safeguard the Labour of our Hero’s Passed by Uniting as one so as to Change the Narrative of the Southern Plateau Constituency for a better Future.

Let’s keep aside our tribal and parties differences, and work collectively for the benefit of all

Remember to Vote Wisely
