The Nigerian singer and song writer Moxie Yaro, has revealed the inspiration behind his recent single “Uncle Remi”.

The song narrates the true-life story of a young pretty girl who was sexually abused by her close “Uncle Remi”.

Speaking to Moxie, he said the story is about a young girl who at barely 12 years of age, lost her dad. Shortly after her dad’s death, her mom started seeing this guy who happens to be her mom’s boyfriend. Eventually the guy moves in with her mom and started staying with the family.

Further, he said even though the mom wasn’t officially married to the guy, she saw him as the step-father to her daughter. Unfortunately, the said Uncle Remi started harassing and sexually abusing the young girl; coming to her room at night, and forcing himself on her.

While the young girl was horrified by what her step dad was doing and she tried to tell her mom about what was happening. Her mom didn’t believe her because she felt her daughter didn’t like “Uncle Remi” because he is not her biological father. And the harassment didn’t stop, so she had to leave the house and started a life of her own.

ViewPointNigeria gather that Moxie met the young girl, who is now all grown-up, while he was serving at Abuja and the lady shared her story with him. She then challenged him to write a song about her situation, as she wanted her story to help other ladies who may be in a similar situation –she however asked for anonymity.

Moxie Yaro served in an non-governmental organization called the “SOAR Initiative”, which is an organization that advocates against child abuse. He confirmed that at hime time at SOAR initiative, he met a lot of sexual abuse victims and heard many horrific stories, which has inspired him.
