The Member representing Riyom Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Dantong today Wednesday 4th September, 2019 visited the Riyom District Traditional Council to have an interface with the Traditional Rulers who are custodians of the customs, norms and tradition of the people as well as get first-hand information about the priority of the people within the District and Local Government Area as a whole towards effective legislation.
Hon. Dantong thanked the Traditional Rulers on their roles in peace building and advisory roles they are playing to unite the people.
He said the essence of the visit is to thank them for their contribution to the Constituency as well as know areas that requires his legislative intervention.
He said the mandate is for service to the people and said the position belongs to the people who out of their volition gave him to represent them.
The Lawmaker promised to give attention to youth empowerment, the plights of the Internally Displaced Persons and make laws that will have significant impact on the people.
He called on the Traditional Rulers to call him to order whenever he is derailing and be opened on things that requires his attention.
He called on them not to relent in their efforts towards peace building, uniting the people and harmonious living.
He promised to sustain the meeting so that a veritable platform where critical issues affecting the District and entire Constituency can be brought to the effort in order to be addressed.
He promised to carry all along irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political inclinations.
The Lawmaker and his delegation were warmly received by the District Head of Riyom (Gwom Rwey) HRH Da Simon Jok and other Traditional Rulers from the District.
The Traditional Council commented the Lawmaker for the visit which they described as well thought, apt and timely.
They said they are blessing and praying for him to excel. They charged him to make the interest of the people his priority.
They asked him to look deeply into the humanitarian situation of the people who are victims of crisis.
The Traditional Rulers urged the Lawmaker to ensure he lift others up through strategic mentorship.
They admonished him no to take the trust and confidence reposed on him for granted but work to justify the mandate accorded him by the people. They said the Member should give greater attention to youths restiveness and undertake skill acquisition programmes to assist teeming youths who are roaming the street without work even with their good results.
They promised to continue to give him the much needed moral, spiritual and advisory guidance for him to succeed.
They said God has used the people to make him their Representative and a lot is needed from him.
The Traditional Rulers said there should be constant communication and consultations between the Legislator and the traditional Leaders so that areas of attention can be discussed and addressed.
They applauded him for the honour accorded them and said he should maintain the gesture to keep knowing the impulse of the people at all times. They promised to draw his attention should he derail from the right path.
They asked him to to look into the final completion of the Building and meeting hall projects that supposed to house the District Head.
In his remark, the Lawmaker promised to give greater attention to the issues raised by the Traditional Leaders.
He said following the Presidential directive paying Local Government Subvention directly to them, he pray to see even development in the Local Government Area which he said is backward in terms of development.
He said he will be committed in advocacy and awareness campaigns that will bring the youths together towards purposeful living.
Other Traditional Rulers who received the Lawmaker were HRH Da Nani Maja Gwom Tahoss, HRH Da Danladi Taje Gwom Jol, HRH Da Gyang Tinjah Gwom Rahoss, HRH Da Gyang Kadu Gwom Kwogo, HRH Da Joshua Dung Gwom Kwi, HRH Da Gyang Dahoro Gwom Rim and the representative of Gwom Wereng Prince Chung Gyang Tengwong.
The Traditional Rulers later blessed and prayed for the Lawmaker to climax the visit.
The Lawmaker was accompanied by the Former Leader Riyom Legislative Aide, Hon. Sati Suwa, former Councillors from the District, Councillorship Candidates from the District, his Aides and other Supporters.
The delegation of the Legislator later took an assessment tour to the General Hospital Riyom LGA to see the level of final works being done to commence full health care service delivery.
