Hike in Electricity Tariff & Fuel Price Insensitive & Unfriendly – Rep. Simon Mwadkwon

The Honorable Member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency Plateau State, Rep. Simon Mwadkwon Ph.D has described the decision of Federal Government which saw the prices of Fuel and Electricity tariff skyrocketing as unpopular, irrational, unfriendly and done without proper consultation considering the high inflation rate and adverse impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Dr. Mwadkwon said with inflation rate at over 13% and the citizens still facing the hardships that accompanied the COVID-19 Pandemic, what the citizens expect is palliatives and other welfare policies that could had reduced their sufferings not add to their burden. He said it is a clear indication that government is insensitive to the plights of the people.
He said as a Member of the Federal House of Representatives, he was never aware of such plans to increase electricity tariff and the price of PMS.

The Federal Lawmaker also wondered why it is taking the President this long to give assent to the Amended Electoral Act. He said the Amended Electoral Act if signed into Law will enhance transparency and integrity of the electoral system which in turned will bring sanity to Nigeria’s polity.

Dr. Mwadkwon said he is a proponent of electronic voting and will continue to support same.

The Legislator said plans are in top gear to empower women and the less privileged in Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency to make them self reliant.
He also said he will soon commission some projects which he was able to execute within his one year in Office.

On the issue of displaced persons in his Constituency, the Federal Lawmaker decried the condition of those who were sacked from their communities.
He called on the State and Federal Government to take urgent steps toward addressing the humanitarian needs of the people.
He urged the security agencies to live up to the core responsible of protecting the territorial integrity from aggressors and other criminal elements.

The Member made these disclosures as Guest on KT 103.9 FM Jos while responding to questions on a citizens engagement live programme tagged “Legislative Town Hall Meeting” by the Journalism Communication and Media Centre, Jos.

The Federal Lawmaker posited that he is committed to providing credible and result-oriented representation.
