Covid-19: Barkin Ladi LG Constitutes Taskforce on Coronavirus

The Management Committee Chairman of Barkin Ladi LGC, Barr. Ezekiel Mandyau on Monday 30th March, 2020 inaugurated the taskforce on the dreaded Covid-19.

The inauguration took place at the Youth Centre Barkin Ladi LGA, Plateau State.

Hon. Ezekiel Mandyau said Covid-19 which has been declared a global emergency and disaster should be taken seriously and tackled holistically.
He said those coming from other parts of the Country with confirmed cases of the virus should be tested and confirmed free before they are allowed to mingle with the public to avoid spread.

He urged the people in the area to adhere strictly to preventive, precautionary measures as well as government directives put in place to curtail spread of the virus.

He said the Council is stepping down the State Government’s directives across the Local Government Area.

Barr. Mandyau said the Taskforce is to enforce strict Implementation of preventive measures against the Corona pandemic in Barkin Ladl Local Government Area as stipulated by the State Government, intensify information sharing and sensitization on the dangers of the Corona Virus and the Precautionary measures in public places, liaise with relevant government agencies and organizations etc for the procurement of necessary kits and medical facilities to contain the pandemic and to adopt any other measures that could help the Committee achieve its set goals.

He said the taskforce will domesticate the directives of the State Government and ensure full compliance in the area.

He called on the traditional, religious leaders and community associations to ensure the people are well guided in adhering to all safety, preventive and precautionary measures as well as all directives meant for their safety and common good no matter how uncomfortable they may seem.

Speaking during the inauguration, the Medical Superintendent of General Hospital Barkin Ladi LGA, Dr Ogbuagu Ngozi charged the Local Government Executive Council to put measures on ground to prevent the spread of the virus which affects human respiratory system and has killed many globally.

Dr. Ngozi said dentifying suspects and tracing contacts remain cardinal.

“Prevention is key in the Local Government Area” she said.

She admonished the people to stay at home, avoid contact, avoid shaking of hands, wash hand regularly, avoid touching their eyes/noses/mouths/ears with hands, maintain social distancing, maintain good personal hygiene and avoid tendencies that could expose them to the virus

She said there is need to fumigate offices, churches, mosques, motor parks, houses, etc.

The Central Committee is to be superintended by the Council Boss, Hon. Ezekiel Mandyau while the Deputy Director of Personnel Management is to serve as Secretary.

Other Subcommittees are Awareness and Advocacy Subcommittee, Enforcement Subcommittee, Medical Facilities and Health Services and the Secretariat and Logistics subcommittee which is to be chaired by the Secretary to the Council, Hon. Capt (Rtr) Nyam Dusu.

The Council Boss urged the Committees to work assiduously towards ensuring a coronavirus-free Local Government Council.

Hon. Rwang Dusu while speaking on behalf of the Secretariat said they will work to ensure the prevention and containment of the virus which he described as a global tragedy.

Hand sanitizers, liquid hand washing soap and others were distributed.
