Speaking at the event, the guest speak, Hon. Pharm Haruna Dagung Mizim, the Senior Legislative aide to Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, spoke on the ways of limiting the spread of the COVID-19 virus. He also advised that personal hygiene has to be top priority for all and sundry and that handshakes have to be minimized and that if symptoms are evident, then a quick call to the NCDC team should be logged.

Wrapping up his commentary, Hon. Mizim Dagung thanked Comrade Lot Adam for giving him the opportunity to speak on such a crucial matter. He said “if we are to stay-virus free, without being in lockdown, then it means that everyone must adhere to the guidelines stipulated by the presidential task force and NCDC. In closing, he encouraged the final year students to read hard for their exams.

Also at the event was Hon. N D Shehu Kanam, the Senior Legislative aide to Nde Hezekiah Dimka. In his message, Hon Kanam said keeping corona virus infection to the barest minimum is everyone’s responsibility. He said “those who in the past did not believe that corona virus was real, I hope they have changed their minds”. He finished his address by averring that halting the spread of corona virus is indeed everyone’s responsibility and that all and sundry have to get their hands on deck.

In his response, Comrade Lot Adas said that initially corona virus was only heard of as something in a foreign land, but that not long after that we heard that it had spread into Nigeria. And that now, Plateau state appears to be leading in the virus count –which is rather unfortunate. He said “I was particularly disturbed and worried when I learnt that the Chief of Staff to the Executive Governor had been diagnosed with the dreaded disease.

That unfortunate news, he said was what prompted him to think about ways of contributing his own quota to nation-building and hence his idea to distribute face-mask, hand sanitisers etc to the secondary schools.

Comrade Lot confirmed that initially his idea was to select two secondary schools from each of the 17 LGAs of Plateau state to be beneficiaries of his gesture. However, he said that financial constraints meant that he could only do 23 secondary schools and therefore has decided to start with Township secondary school as the first.
